Services

  • Proofreading is the final stage in the editing process for any piece of writing prior to publication. This includes newsletters, blogs, manuscripts, academic articles, and more. If you don’t see your project in this list, email me via the CONTACT page, and I would be happy to advise whether my services will be a good fit.

  • Proofreading corrections are based on any style preferences expressed by the author as well as references such as The Chicago Manual of Style Online and Merriam-Webster online dictionary. Corrections will include:

    Grammar

    Spelling

Typos (repeated words, inconsistent double vs. single spacing, etc.)

    Capitalization

    Punctuation

    Correct word usage

    Formatting consistency

    Identification of broken links

*Re-wording, re-structuring, and fact-checking are NOT included, as those elements should be reviewed by a line editor or copyeditor before the project is submitted for proofreading.

  • $.015 per word

$.02 per word for highly specialized/technical content

$10 minimum for all proofreading projects

Prior to any service agreement, length and content of the project will be discussed between the author and Roth Proofreading to determine turnaround time and appropriate rate ($.015 vs. $.02).

Rush fees for accelerated turnaround are available on a case-by-case basis.

My name is Laura Roth. As a qualified professional proofreader, I aim to exceed my clients' expectations, going above and beyond the expected services of correcting spelling, grammar, and punctuation. To add value, I identify more subtle errors missed by most automated spellcheckers and grammar tools. These include homonyms, idiom wording, ordering of cumulative adjectives, U.S.- or U.K.-specific spellings, use of numerals vs. spelled out numbers, and more. In addition to my training through Proofread Anywhere, I use credible sources such as The Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam-Webster as a style guide; I also communicate with each client individually regarding specific style preferences based on the type of voice they wish to use for their project.
